Norfund is a Norwegian development fund, created to invest in developing countries globally. The fund is owned by the Norwegian government and operated by its own board of directors. Norfund is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, with additional offices across Africa, Asia and South America. This includes offices in Accra, Ghana, Nairobi, Kenya, and Cape Town, South Africa.
In Africa, Norfund is present in the majority of Africa, and has operations in some capacity in Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, the republic of Congo, DR. Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Norfund has previously invested in Algeria.
Norfund offers easily accessible reporting on sustainability goals and achievements. The fund is also a member of Norwegian African Business Association, but not UN Global Compact.
