Yara International is a chemical company specialising in nitrogen-based mineral fertilizers. A third of the company is owned by the Norwegian state, making it majority shareholder. The company was previously known as Norsk Hydro, but the fertiliser branch was made into a separate company in 2004. Main offices are located in Oslo, Norway.
In Africa, Yara is present in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. The company has previously conducted business in Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Ivory Coast.
Yara offers extensive reporting on sustainability, as well as other good governance indicators. They are a member of Norwegian African Business Association (NABA) and UN Global Compact.
