Abiy Ahmed was the prime minister on everyone's lips from April 2018. In one year he has made peace with Eritrea, freed thousands of opposition prisoners, opened up to foreign investors, survived an assassination and a mutiny, appointed women as half of the government and the president and tackled corruption and human rights violations within the ruling party.
However, Ethiopia is facing growing communal and ethnic tensions within the country and had the highest numbers of internally displaced people in the world in 2018. What role does ethnic politics have in this regard? Does practicing ethnic politics influence the process of democratizing the country? And is federalism in Ethiopia possible without ethnicity being involved?
Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, was set to vote in presidential and federal elections on 16 Februar. But the elections were postponed last minute to 23 February. The political landscape in Nigeria has changed the last decade, and there is an increasing democratic participation. However, violent conflicts, corruption and militant activists are still challenges for the country. Promises of less corruption and more security has characterized the election campaigns, but what will happen after?
Vi er Oslo Afro Arts Festival (OAAF), en årlig festival som setter fokus kunst og musikk med bakgrunn i afrikansk tradisjon og kultur. OAAF er en videreføring av Zimfest Oslo- en zimbabwisk kultur- og musikkfestival, som har vært arrangert siden 2014. Men for å kunne fortsette festivalsuksessen er vi avhengige av flere frivillige ildsjeler! Vi ser etter individ som liker kunst, kultur og festival. Vi ønsker dere som kan bidra med talenter og smil for å gjøre Oslo Afro Arts festival 2019 til tidenes beste opplevelse både for deg og de besøkende. The decade from 2015 to 2024 has been proclaimed the International Decade for People of African Descent by the UN. The UN advise all states to "Celebrate the launch of the International Decade at the national level, and develop national programmes of action and activities for the full and effective implementation of the Decade". However, in Norway, the state has not taken any initiative regarding the Decade, and they are not planning to. Why is the Decade not a priority for the government?

Stillingen utlyses som åremålsstilling på fire år, med mulighet til forlengelse med maks én ny periode. Vi trenger en til å overta styringen i en organisasjon i aktivitets- og medlemsvekst, og som kan utløse Fellesrådet for Afrikas store potensiale.
Fellesrådet for Afrika har hatt et svært aktivt 2018, med mange spennende arrangementer, gjester og politisk påvirkningsarbeid. Ingenting av dette hadde vi fått til uten våre fantastiske frivillige som står på året rundt, samt våre medlemmer som støtter vårt arbeid økonomisk. Vi vil også takke alle våre flotte samarbeidspartnere.
Somali women, often living as refugees in Kenya, are lured by the promise of a better life into exploitation by Somali men from the diaspora who travel to Kenya on holiday. They go through a religious marriage ceremony and consummate the marriage, before the men eventually return to their families in Europe and America. Their new brides are abandoned, often pregnant, and left without any financial means to take care of themselves and their children. The practice is known as “vacation marriage” and is a well-known secret within Somali communities. Is there a difference between these sham marriages and sex tourism?
